I'm not really sure what to say tonight... Addi's sound asleep in the bed and I'm tossing and turning on the couch, second guessing myself and wondering if there's anything better that I could be doing for her.
I'm planning on telling them in the morning that I want to go home with her ASAP. I don't think its good for either one of us to be stuck in the hospital if they aren't really doing anything more for her. Basically, the plan as of now is to just increase the Miralax dose until she poops on her own. They recommended up to four times per day... even more than an adult dose. They did say the Miralax is perfectly safe though even in high doses like that. They have also talked about milk of magnesia as well - just like the rest of the stuff like that, side effects are cramping and diarrhea. I think alot of doctors have forgotten that getting her to poop at all, isn't really the point, its getting her to poop without intervention. I could give her a big dose of milk of mag - and will she go? Eventually, yes. But she will be screaming in pain and having awful cramping.....and then she will have diarrhea. For a one-time backup, that is not a big deal, but if we put her through that everyday its not fair to her and we would likely end up back in the hospital anyway for dehydration. That is NOT a solution.
Addison's comfort is and always will be my number one priority. A baby her age who cant understand why, shouldn't be prescribed a treatment that will only relieve the problem temporarily, at the cost of even more pain and suffering. Adam and I will choose a new course of treatment based on the doctors recommendations and what is the least painful for her - because she's been through ENOUGH already. Its hard to abandon irrigations when they make her so much happier, almost instantly. Hopefully the biopsy results will come back today and perhaps tell us something useful.
